To support the needs of the community, the Thensted Outreach Center in Grand Coteau will begin a Summer Food Service Program next week.
The program will run from Monday, May 11, 2020 through Friday, July 24, 2020, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided Monday through Friday to all children without charge. The Center is located at 268 Church Street in Grand Coteau.
Requirements for the program are the same for all; no registration is required.
To ensure the safety of participants and staff, everyone will be required to wear masks.
The program will be a "Grab-N-Go" style. Once you drive up, provide the number of meals you need, and the staff will package the meals and deliver them to your car. There is no need to get out of your car.
Director Julia Richard began distributing cleaning supplies to seniors and others in need when the coronavirus outbreak began. Soon, she says, the need grew beyond cleaning supplies.
Richard contacted numerous sources to address those needs and the Center is now partnering with Catholic Charities of Acadiana, FoodNet of Lafayette, United Way of Acadiana, Second Harvest Food Bank, Religious of the Sacred Heart, Jesuits Province, Louisiana Department of Education, and many private donors.
Food will be distributed daily until it runs out.
