Lafayette Consolidated Government has received more than $852,000 to help businesses with COVID-19 preparation, prevention, and relief.
The money is through a grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
LCG's Director of Community Development Hollis Conway says the federal grant money is being used to go back to residents who really need help in any area related to COVID-19.
Any person or business interested in receiving the grant should email Conway at hconway@lafayettela.gov. You'll be sent a pre-application, a one sheet for the various types of grants available, and information on requirements and regulations.
The federal funds have strict guidelines and regulations that an applicant must meet, including the capacity to handle the grant money, employee experience, financial records, and more. Applicants must also submit details on how they would use the funds if they were to receive them.
Conway says that those interested look over the list of requirements and those who know they would not fit the requirements are asked not to apply.
"That will extend the already two month process, and they won't be able to get the funds out in a timely manner to help those in need," he explained.
He added that LCG is attempting to get the money out as fast as possible, and they hope to have all grant applications approved by July 18.
Applications are due by Monday, April 27, 2020.
You can find and download the application below.
