A number of school districts across Acadiana will start face-to-face learning in early September.
But while some students return to the classroom, others will instead be learning virtually.
Each school system in Acadiana has plans in place to accommodate those families who would prefer to have their children learn from home as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
Here is a look at how many students have applied to use virtual learning to start the school year. (Click each parish to see more on their Back to School plans)
- Acadia - approx. 2,900 (enrollment as of 2/2020 was 9,738 students). 29.7% opt for virtual.
- Evangeline - no numbers provided (enrollment as of 2/2020 was 5,755 students)
- Iberia - 3,734 (enrollment as of 2/2020 was 12,331 students). 30% opt for virtual.
- Jeff Davis - 1,114 (enrollment as of 2/2020 was 5,766 students). 19.3% opt for virtual.
- Lafayette - approx. 5,000 (enrollment as of 2/2020 was 31,994 students). 15.6% opt for virtual.
- We asked why this number was so low, since more than 7,500 registered the day before the deadline. We're told parents had to "re-commit" after applying. Officials wouldn't tell us how many total registered but did not "re-commit" to the program after applying. They said parents should receive communication about their enrollment status once the applications are processed.
- St. Landry - 100 percent of students (enrollment as of 2/2020 was 12,965 students)
- St. Martin - approx. 3,000 (enrollment as of 2/2020 was 7,649 students). 39.2% opt for virtual.
- St. Mary - approx. 3,000 (enrollment as of 2/2020 was 8,481 students). 35.3% opt for virtual.
- Vermilion - 2,235 (enrollment as of 2/2020 was 9,651 students). 23.1% opt for virtual.
