This weekend, a Louisiana nonprofit is helping foster children ahead of the new school year.
Donations of new school supplies and uniforms are being accepted by Foster the Love Louisiana this Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Christian Life Center on Verot School Road.
Volunteers are also needed to organize duffle bags of necessities, which will go to kids entering foster homes.
The bags, called First Night Bags, help children transition into a foster home, which Foster the Love volunteer Shala Wells says can be extremely difficult.
"It is traumatizing. They are being pulled from someone they love who they've known their whole life into this whole new situation and they can't take anything of their own,"
