Penelope is a multimedia journalist for KATC 3 where she reports for Vermilion Parish. With a keen eye for local stories and a deep commitment to delivering accurate and relevant news, Lopez has become a trusted source of information for residents of Vermilion Parish.
An Emmy nominated journalist, Lopez is passionate about keeping the community informed. A Long Island native, Lopez enjoys traveling, going to the movies, exploring art galleries, and attending concerts.
Prior to KATC, Lopez was a booking producer for the award-winning show, ABC News Live Prime with anchor Linsey Davis. During her time there, Lopez secured timely exclusive interviews with high-profile global leaders, national political figures, White House officials, and social media influencers. Lopez booked guests during breaking news specials including: the Russia-Ukraine War, the January 6 Committee Hearings, the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, Uvalde Elementary School Shooting, House Speaker vote, racial uprisings, immigration, Covid-19 Pandemic, and many more. With a focus on informing the next generation, Lopez co-created a weekly series called TikTalk which focuses on content creators making a splash on social media. Lopez has previously interned for WABC-TV, Nightline, and 20/20.
Lopez graduated from Hofstra University in 2020 with a bachelor of arts in journalism, rhetorical studies, and Spanish. She also studied communications at the University of Nebrija in Madrid, Spain and film in Havana, Cuba.
When she’s not on a story, Lopez loves to discover new local restaurants. Lopez’s favorite slogan to live by is “Mija, you got this!” With a finger on the pulse of the neighborhood, Lopez is your go-to journalist for all things Vermilion Parish.
