The position for Vermilion Parish School Board superintendent is now open.
Board members met in a special meeting Wednesday night and officially opened the search.
The hiring process should take around 60 days, and the new superintendent would take over the position for the upcoming school year.
Advertising for the position will begin on Sunday, June 28, in the Abbeville Meridional and the Daily Advertiser.
Board President Laura Lebeouf and Vice President Kibbie Pillette will bring the candidate applications to the school board's legal counsel to begin the interview process.
The board won't be using a search firm, but will instead be conducting interviews and completing the process themselves.
A special board meeting will be held on August 3rd, where the board will discuss next steps, such as how many interview rounds will be held and whether or not members will enter an executive session to vote on the new superintendent.
Approving the hire of a new superintendent requires a majority vote, which would be 5/8.
