Vermilion Parish Superintendent Tommy Byler announced that middle and high school student will go back to face to face instruction from hybrid learning in February.

Byler says elementary school students will remain on their regular schedule.

That transition will begin on Monday February 1, with all middle and high schools students reporting for in-person learning on Friday February 5, 2021.

Byler says that the transition will begin on February 1 with a hybrid schedule that will add more students each day. On Friday, all students will report to middle and high schools.

Byler says that most COVID-19 infections have taken place outside of schools. He mentions a report from the CDC that recommends students return to school due to emotional distress.

"It may not be a popular decision but it is a decision that is in the best interest of our students learning," Byler said.

Vermilion Parish Schools will be requiring COVID-19 mitigation measures including masking and social distancing.
