The sport of golf is returning to Vermilion Parish with the opening of a new country club in Abbeville.
The Southern Oaks Country Club, an 18-hole public gulf course and country club, will open this fall in the location of the former Vermilion Country Club and Vermilion Oaks.
Vermilion Oaks closed in 2017 after 88 years in business.
In a press release, owner Rhett Hebert says that teams have been working over the last year to rebuild the golf course while preserving much of the location's history.
Some of the work included cleaning up tee boxes, fairways, and adding freshly planted grass on the greens.
The country club will offer several amenities including a pro shop and an on-site swimming pool.
The price for a single membership will be $155 and $199 for a family membership which includes a cart plan. In addition to the regular membership, there will be a driving range membership for $20 a month and a business membership.
