Police arrest man for narcotics after responding to alleged attempted kidnapping

MAURICE, La. - A 38-year-old Abbeville man is accused of multiple drug charges after police responded to an alleged kidnapping.

On Monday, the Maurice Police Department responded to a local business in response to a woman alleging to have been kidnapped, according to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon. The officer was able to identify the suspect as Michael BJ O'Bryan Jr., and upon attempting to detain him, O'Bryan fled on foot. After a very short foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody.

Police searched O'Bryan's vehicle and located suspected narcotics and a firearm, according to Captain Drew David, spokesperson for the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office.

Agents with the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff's Narcotics Task Force responded to assist and were able to obtain enough evidence to arrest O'Bryan on the following charges:

  • Possession of Schedule I, (Marijuana)
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I , (MDMA)
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II, (Methamphetamine)
  • Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a CDS
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • Transactions Involving Drug Proceeds

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office has applied for a warrant of arrest for O'Bryan on a charge of simple kidnapping, according to a spokesperson for the Office.

More charges are expected as the investigation continues.
