An Abbeville man has been arrested in connection with a shots fired investigation in the city earlier this month.

According to police, officers responded shortly before 7 p.m. to the area near Live Oak Manor Apartments on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive to a call of shots fired. Officers located several spent casings in the area and were able to obtain surveillance footage. Police say the footage showed multiple people getting out of a vehicle and shooting weapons at another vehicle.

Officers were able to identify one of the subjects shooting an AR-15 style rifle as Chaquam Williams of Abbeville.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Williams for charges of Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities and Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies. Police say that in 2018, Williams was charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder; that charge was later changed to Illegal Use of Weapons and he was convicted on that charge. He has also been arrested on other firearm related charges.

Williams was located on Oct. 28 and arrested on the warrants obtained. He was transported to the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center.
