After a month-long donation drive, the St. Mary Community Action Agency is ready to deliver baskets of supplies to those affected by Hurricane Laura.
Today, members of the agency will travel to Lake Charles to meet up with their partners in Calcasieu, Cameron and Allen Parish to drop off collected items.
Items were donated by the community beginning on September 1st and included toiletries, water, gift cards and monetary donations.
"Part of our mission as an organization is to impact our communities, both near and far, socially, economically, and spiritually," they said. "These contributions and commitment in aiding in Hurricane Laura relief efforts mean we can help families in need who have lost everything that they own. We appreciate the donations and all that has been completed."
The Community Action Agency says that some of those who donated to victims of Hurricane Laura know firsthand the devastation and the long, difficult process of rebuilding.
"Several individuals and families lost everything and moved away following Hurricane Katrina, 15 years ago," they said. "It is so encouraging to see them come out to help others in need."
