Butch Gautreaux, who served St. Mary Parish for many years in the Louisiana Legislature, has died.
His family posted this today:
Butch was born Dudley Anthony Gautreaux in 1947. He was a member of the Louisiana State Senate from 2000 to 2012. Prior to that he served in the Louisianan House of Representatives from 1996 until 2000.
He was a graduate of Nichols State University, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a Rotarian. He was a Democrat, a Roman Catholic and husband to the former Marilyn Mire.
As soon as we have information on services, we will post it.
Here are some posts about his passing:
We are so sorry to hear of the passing of former State Senator Butch Gautreaux. A leader who always put people first especially when it wasn’t always the easiest thing to do. Rest in power, Senator. Thank you for your service. #lalege #lagov pic.twitter.com/b3ifMRtpKa

Yesterday, we lost one of the kindest, most principled, most honest men I’ve ever known. Butch Gautreaux believed people were fundamentally good, party meant less than willingness to cooperate, and success and compassion aren’t mutually exclusive. #lalege pic.twitter.com/oTBswv2fjN
