High winds in Morgan City have downed several power poles as bands from Hurricane Barry make their way onshore.
Winds in the area have been reported at about 40 mph on Saturday morning. Crews are currently on the scene of those downed power poles which are located near Teche Regional Medical Center on Marguerite Street (LA 70) in the city.
The roadway is closed to traffic at its intersections with Ninth Street and Victor II Blvd. due to those downed poles.
There is no report of how many people are currently without power in the city.
Police are urging residents to shelter in place as the storm passes through the area.
