BALDWIN, La. — An audit report released Monday, Feb. 3 details several problems for the Town of Baldwin including deficits in town funds totaling more than $1.5 million.
The report also found that the town failed to reconcile customer water and gas meter deposit balances and in 2019, only billed 48 percent of the water produced.
The number of gallons produced or purchased were also not reconciled to the number of gallons billed, according to the report.
The report continues that the town also failed to maintain required amounts in its Utility Revenue Bond Reserve Fund and that utility rates were not adjusted as required by bond ordinance.
Not all property taxes due to the town were collected, according to the report, and there was reportedly no attempt by the town to seize and sell property with unpaid taxes.
The audit also found that the town did not seek driver's license suspension for those with unpaid tickets.
