The St. Martinville Police Department has announced some changed due to COVID-19.

Effective immediately, the Department’s lobby will be closed to the public. For emergencies, please dial 911.

"Our police dispatchers can still be reached at 394-3001 for any non-emergency calls. If necessary, an officer will assist you from outside of the police department," a statement reads. "In order to protect the health of our officers on duty, we will be limiting all officer contact with the public. Officers will continue to respond to all calls when someone's safety is at risk, and the officers will do so in protective gear for the safety of everyone involved."

Any non-essential calls will be handled over the phone and/or from a safe distance. Until further notice, the police department WILL NOT unlock vehicles UNLESS a child or animal is locked in the vehicle.

All crash reports can be obtained online, or someone can assist you over the phone.

"We appreciate your patience throughout this unique and uncharted state of emergency and we are still here to protect and serve our city. These are merely preventative measures to decrease the spread of COVID-19," the release states.
