A second passenger has died from his injuries following a fatal December 15 crash in St. Martin Parish.

That passenger, identified as 21-year-old Gannon Sam of Breuax Bridge, was the front seat passenger in the Honda Accord that was part of a two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 347 near Claton Castille Road.

Troopers say that despite having worn his seat belt, Sam ultimately suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on December 27, 2019 at a local hospital.

The crash, according to Louisiana State Police, happened after 11:00 pm on December 15, 2019. The crash initially claimed the life of 26-year-old Chayce Gobert of Breaux Bridge.

The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed Gobert was a rear passenger in a 2018 Honda Accord being driven southbound on LA Hwy 347. The vehicle was struck by a northbound 2018 Ram pickup. It was determined by investigators that the driver of the Honda crossed the center line, into the path of the Ram pickup, attempting to turn left onto Clayton Castille Road.

Gobert was not restrained and suffered fatal injuries; he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Honda, along with the driver of the Ram, were wearing seatbelts and both, suffered only minor injuries. Impairment is unknown, but toxicology samples were taken from the drivers for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation. At this time, no citations or arrests have been made.
