BREAUX BRIDGE, La. - Police are investigating a fatal crash on the interstate.

On January 1, just after midnight, the Breaux Bridge Police Department received a call in reference to a crash on the westbound lane of I-10 near the exit ramp, according to Assistant Chief Terry Latiolais.

The first crash involved a single vehicle that had hit the concrete barriers and came to rest on the westbound lanes of travel. Other vehicles stopped to help.

Another vehicle traveling westbound then struck the disabled vehicle and two people. One person was very seriously injured and the other was thrown over the center concrete wall into the eastbound lanes of travel.

Investigators say shortly after, an 18-wheeler traveling eastbound struck and killed 20-year-old Robin Theriot, of St Martinville. The other injured person was transported to St Martin Hospital and later to another hospital in serious, but stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
