WASHINGTON — The Town of Washington has yet again failed to pass a budget.
The budget failed to pass in a 3-2 vote during a special meeting on Thursday.
If the town does not pass a budget, the state will take over.
According to Councilwoman Mona Wilson, she's hoping the mayor will come back with a budget the entire council can agree on before they get to that point.
The town has a $600,000 budget shortfall and has been operating in a deficit for the past six years.
Right now, they're operating on 50% of last year's budget.
The town's museum and tourist center is currently closed, according to their website.
The council will meet for a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday.
