St. Landry Parish Crimestoppers: Help needed solving Opelousas homicide

OPELOUSAS, La. — The St. Landry Parish Crimestoppers is asking for help from the public in solving a homicide that took place in the City of Opelousas.

According to Det. Mike Hidalgo of the Opelousas Police Department, on Nov. 3, between the hours of 11 p.m. and midnight, residents at 802 Beverly Rd., Crestview Apartments, reported hearing a single gunshot.

OPD says that the responding officers checked the area, but did not locate anyone.

Later at approximately 3:20 a.m., police say that a second call indicated that someone was laying on the floor and not breathing in Apartment 31 of Building E of the apartment complex.

Upon arrival, OPD say that the officers located Michael Andrus Jr, a 19-year-old black male, laying in the door way of Apartment 31, in Building E.

Andrus was found to be deceased from a single gunshot wound, according to police.
