Power restored, cleanup underway in Opelousas after Thursday storms

Power is restored and clean up is underway in Opelousas following severe storms that pushed through portions of Acadiana on Thursday night.

Opelousas Mayor Julius Alsandor says that around 1,200 residents lost power during the storms. Power has since been restored to those residents.

Public work crews were also out early Friday morning clearing debris off of roadways.

The Opelousas Police Deaprtments said Thursday night that a woman became trapped inside of her home on Vidrine Street due to a fallen tree.

A tree also fell on a vehicle while a woman was driving down Main Street Thursday night. Police say she was able to safely exit the vehicle.

No injures were reported in Opelousas due to the storms.
