The Opelousas Police Department has released the name of the victim in Saturday night's fatal shooting.
The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Kelly Guidry.
Officers say the shooting took place just before 8:30 pm on January 23 in the area of N. Market and Cheney Street.
Police say that Guidry was discovered responsive at the scene lying next to the railroad tracks.
He was unable to provide information on possible suspects involved in the shooting.
Guidry was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police say that several homes and businesses were also struck by gunfire during the incident.
An investigation into the shooting is currently ongoing.
