The Opelousas Police officer accused of battery on an 18-year-old in a hospital room last year has resigned.
Tyron Andrepont emailed a letter of resignation to Opelousas Police Chief Martin McLendon on Monday.
The city council must now review that letter and vote to deny or accept Andrepont's resignation. The next council meeting is set for July 14, 2020.
Earlier this month, Andrepont was booked on five counts of malfeasance in connection with the alleged battery. Read more here.
