A teacher at Opelousas Junior High has been arrested, accused of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Superintendent Patrick Jenkins confirmed to KATC that 57-year-old Toranza Arvie of Ville Platte, who is a teacher at OJHS, has been arrested and booked with Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile. Opelousas Police confirmed that arrest, saying their investigation started with a complaint by a parent.

Police say that Arvie had alleged inappropriate contact with at least one of his female students. Superintendent Jenkins was unsure if the juvenile student allegedly involved was Arvie’s student.

The investigation was initiated by the parent of the female student who noticed inappropriate text messages between her child and Arvie.

Jenkins says the alleged contact was unrelated to anything having to do with school or school work.

OPD said there may be more juveniles involved.

Arvie is on leave without pay, pending the results of the investigation.

Arvie was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on Tuesday. More charges are pending.
