One person has been arrested in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash Thursday night in St. Landry Parish.
State Police say 33-year-old Ryan Joseph Richard was arrested following a two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 93 at Billeaux Road.
That crash took the life of 36-year-old James Ryan Elliot of Scott.
Troopers say an investigation revealed that Elliot was driving a motorcycle northbound on LA 93 when Richard turned left from Billeaux Road onto LA 93 heading southbound.
Richard was allegedly unable to maintain control of his vehicle and entered the northbound lane where he struck Elliot's motorcycle.
Elliot received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner's office.
According to State Police, Elliot was wearing a DOT approved safety helmet at the time of the crash.
Richard, who was not properly restrained, was uninjured.
State Police say a breath sample obtained from Richard indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.224 percent. Standard toxicology results are pending for Elliot.
Richard was arrested and booked on the following charges:
- LRS 32:295.1 no seat belt
- LRS 32:58 careless operation
- LRS 14:32.1 vehicular homicide
The crash remains under investigation.
