Seniors were honored during a parade today in Opelousas.
The class of 2020 at Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts (MACA) was recognized by family and friends on the day that was originally scheduled for their graduation ceremony.
The parade began at the Donald Gardiner Stadium and proceeded down Creswell Lane back to the school.
Principal Karen Olivier thanked Opelousas Mayor Julius Alsandor, Fire Chief Martin McClendon, the Opelousas Fire Department, and the City of Opelousas for coming together as a community and making the parade possible for the seniors. She also thanked the staff of Magnet Academy for all their hard work.
"They're the most important people," said Olivier. "Thank them for making this happen."
Olivier added that she hopes the event showed the students and community a bit of positivity during uncertain times.
"I think it's very important that we spotlight them, despite what our world is going through, and that they realize that they don't have to dwell on this and that we can still celebrate it. We can still be happy and have distance gatherings."
