Eunice Police investigating shooting on East Maple Avenue

EUNICE, La. — The Eunice Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place at approximately 3:58 p.m. on Wednesday in the 400 block of East Maple Avenue.

According to Chief Randy Fontenot, the shooting left one male victim with gunshot wound to the abdominal area, who had to be airlifted to an undisclosed location.

Fontenot says that the victim suffered serious injuries but appears that he will survive.

He adds that EPD does have a suspect who has not yet been located.

According to EPD, video from the scene shows the victim and suspect got into a fight at a convenience store that later moved outside.

Once outside, the fight continued and the suspect pulled out a gun and struck the victim in the face.

As suspect approached the victim again, he pointed the gun at the victim and shot him in the abdomen area.

EPD says that the suspect then got into a vehicle and drove away from the scene.

Someone else at the scene then picked up the victim transported them to a local hospital in Eunice before the victim was airlifted to another location.

The shooting is still under investigation.

Fontenot says that if anyone has any information or witnessed the shooting, they are urged to contact EPD at 337-457-2626.
