Workouts for multiple athletic programs are currently suspended at schools across the Acadiana area because of the coronavirus.

Lafayette, Acadia, and Vermilion Parishes have reported full or partial suspension of football workouts.

In St. Landry Parish, two athletes at Beau Chene High have tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the suspension of athletic activities at the school.

St. Landry Parish's athletic director explains what the next steps will be for the program.

Athletic director, Jerome Robinson says he was immediately notified about the cases and all activities at Beau Chene High have been suspended.

"We have suspended workouts at the school at this time. Just as a safety precaution is within our protocols and I also just following the CDC and the governor's phase two approach, as well as our district stance," said Robinson.

Robinson says the two athletes at Beau Chene High School are quarantined. He says he's working closely with athletic trainers throughout the parish to contain the spread. He couldn't elaborate of specifics but says suspending football practices is the best decision at this time.

"I can't name anybody, I can't really name the sport or anything like that right now. We're just taking every precaution to try to in sure that our athletes are safe as well as our staff," said Robinson.

Robinson says once more data is collected, they will be able to release more information.
