If you're proud of your family, your faith or your hobbies, you've probably had the thought to share it with the world, maybe even in the form of a bumper sticker. Youngsville Police Chief Rickey Boudreaux says you shouldn't put this information out there, especially on your car where predators can use it against you.
"I wouldn't share my hobbies because that kind of gives them an idea of where you might be at. I wouldn't share, some of them even go as far as putting out neighborhoods and even the school. There were times when you would gladly do proud parent of this school but now you're narrowing down your search and making it easy for people to track you down," says Boudreaux.
A church sticker could say your home will be empty for at least an hour every Sunday morning. An honor roll sticker with your child's name could tell a predator where they are all day.
"I wouldn't put my kids names on there. Its too easy for the pedophiles to try to search them on all the social media. Tik tok and all that, makes it too easy for them to find. Because on those things you can narrow it to a certain city, to a certain area, and that's not always a good thing," says Boudreaux, advising that you keep it simple when it comes to decorating your vehicle.
"As generic as possible that doesn't give them an idea of where you shop at. If you don't want people that you don't want around your kids or around your family, why make it that easy to find them."
