UPDATE: Sheriff Romero would like the public to be aware that this case is being investigated as a murder/suicide and there is NOT a suspect at large.
NEW IBERIA, LA- Two people are dead on Troy Road in Iberia Parish.
Sheriff Tommy Romero says deputies got a call from a woman who heard someone outside her home, and when they arrived deputies heard gunshots.
They made telephone contact with a man believed to be in the house, but the contact ended. Deputies tried to re-establish contact, and when they couldn't the decision was made to go into the house, Romero says.
When deputies got into the house they found two people, both dead, the sheriff said.
Their identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The coroner is on the scene, and deputies are investigating.
