LAFAYETTE — The victim in Thursday night's fire on St. Benjamin Drive has been identified as Brock Johnson, 22. Firefighters found Johnson's body in a bedroom.
Fire department spokesman Alton Trahan says Johnson was inside the home with his mother, stepfather, siblings, and other relatives when the fire happened. Those relatives heard a loud boom coming from Johnson's bedroom before they noticed the fire. Everyone else in the house escaped.
The State Fire Marshal's Office and the Lafayette Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire. The Lafayette Parish Coroner's Office is investigating the cause of Johnson's death.

ORIGINAL STORY:
One person is dead after a fire Thursday night on St. Benjamin Street in Lafayette.
According to Lafayette Fire Department spokesperson Alton Trahan, LFD responded to 227 St Benjamin Street shortly before 8:40 p.m. for a reported house fire. When firefighters arrived on scene, the home was fully involved, with flames coming from a window in the front of the dwelling.
The occupants of the home told emergency crews that someone was still inside the home. Firefighters searched the home and found one victim inside.
The home sustained heavy fire damage, along with three vehicles.
Investigators are examining the fire scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Lafayette Police along with the Lafayette Coroner's Office are assisting in the investigation.
The identity of the victim is not being released pending notification of the family.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and additional information will be released once it becomes available.
