New Iberia hosted its July 4th celebrations today with a new twist.
The event included music, food trucks, prizes, and a special honor for veterans.
There was also a new segment to the annual parade called "Lite Up My Ride!" Participants were encouraged to decorate their bikes and were able to ride in the parade for free.
Prizes were given for best decorated bikes, best "poppa-wheely," and "Most Spirited Rider." Judges were New Iberia Mayor DeCourt, Parish President Larry Richard, veterans, and NIPD.
Councilwoman Sherry Guidry said that this year, the event included the bicycle decorating portion in order to make the celebration more "family oriented."
