Safety zone issued for Bayou Chene

—-The following is a press release issued by the Coast Guard—-

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is enforcing a temporary safety zone in the vicinity of Bayou Chene while the Army Corps of Engineers sink a barge near Morgan City, Louisiana, Wednesday.

The safety zone will remain in effect until 6 p.m., Thursday. All mariners shall keep a minimum distance of 2 nautical miles within Bayou Chene Light – 4.

No vessel or person is permitted to operate in the temporary safety zone unless authorized by the captain of the port or designated representative.

During this time, and until further notice, the Bayou Boeuf Lock will open to all navigation. This will be the only east-to-west route from Port Arthur, Texas, to New Orleans. All mariners are advised to use extreme caution when transiting the Bayou Boeuf Locks and check in and out with the Vessel Traffic Service Berwick Bay on Channel 11.
