As many are preparing to get back to work under Phase 1 of reopening the economy, many are changing their rules. It's a way make sure everyone stays safe and healthy. At RevFit Gym in Lafayette, the normal sounds of a busy gym have been replaced with the sounds of cleaning and renovation.
"We've used this time to start remodeling," owner Crystal Trahan said. "We've done some stuff. A lot of our members don't even know what we've done and I cant wait to see their faces when they walk through."
They won't have to wait too much longer, under Phase 1 of the reopening plan businesses like RevFit Gym can now accept customers. Since they are renovating they're not ready to reopen yet. However, just knowing their business can reopen is bringing hope.
"It's going to save us," Trahan said. "So many times, we wasn't sure how we would make it. How your income is cut beyond what you could even imagine. It's a huge weight lifted off of our shoulders. Other businesses I can feel their pain and struggle, but you know we can bond together and get through it. There's no doubt about it. We're Louisiana we can get through that. "
Not far from the gym is hair salon Styles Of Class. Monday evening, salon owner Latricia Bryant wore a shirt that best described how she's feeling. "I miss my clients," Bryant said. "I miss you guys and I love my clients because I love relationships. That's something I desperately miss.
Signs are now up inside of the building showing new rules for the salon. Patrons will get their temperatures checked, must social distance, and wear a mask. While Bryant, is making sure everyone is safe, she says reopening is fulfilling a need that goes beyond money.
"For me it's therapy,"Bryant said. "For my clients it's therapy. We come in and enjoy the conversations. Financially, we know bills are still due so it's important for us to get back to work so we can start back being financially in a comfortable place."
