JEANERETTE — The Vermilion Parish School Board is once again at odd over agenda items.
There were several items on Thursday night's agenda, but the biggest issue was two attorneys present and no one could give a clear answer on who represents the board.
With a 5-3 vote, the board approved eliminating the position of Legal Counsel/ Risk Manager and eliminating funds for that position.
The board also approved that the Superintendent and Board President sign a contract with Hammonds, Sills, Adkins, and Guice Law firm as the board's general counsel.
Superintendent Jerome Puyau countered both items saying that they break state law and board policy and he would not put himself in a position to break the law.
The Superintendent also says there is no funding to pay the newly appointed counsel.
"We are worse than we were before. It puts the board at more risk. Sorry to say, with all the great things that are happening in Vermilion Parish with our scores and our students... the board is stuck on who has more power. The superintendent or them individually," Puyau said.
Five board members recognize one attorney for the board, while three others recognize the counsel employed by the school board.
