State Police have identified the person killed Monday following a fiery crash on I-10 West on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.
Troopers say that 31-year-old Christopher McGee of Youngstown, Florida was killed in the crash which occurred around 2:00 pm on Monday, August 26.
An investigation revealed that a separate single-vehicle crash on the bridge resulted in that vehicle becoming disabled in the roadway. Westbound traffic began to slow and, according to troopers, three 18-wheelers and several passenger vehicles began a chain reaction crash.
McGee's 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer became engulfed in flames during the crash.
Troopers say he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several other injuries ranging from minor to moderate were also reported. Those injured were treated at local hospitals.
The crash remains under investigation.
The westbound lanes of I-10 remain closed as of 11:00 a.m. on August 27, 2019 for emergency crews to remove vehicles and debris from the roadway.
LA DOTD will inspect the bridge before the westbound lanes are reopened.
