Plaisance Middle School held their Black History Month program Wednesday, honoring local sports legends and distinguished alumni.
Tonight's guest speaker was Karl Dunbar, who is the Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman coach. Dunbar is originally from Opelousas.
Other athletes honored at tonight's program were John Thierry, Coach Murphy Guillory, and Sam Guillory, all of whom have passed away.
Dunbar said, "The people in this community work real hard to take care of this community. You'll see a lot of people here tonight are the product of that kind of social life that we had here in Plaisance."
