Ten students at Opelousas High School are now a part of a pilot program with Harvard University.
Only 32 schools in the nation were chosen and OHS is one of only four in the state.
The program focuses on poetry, but they say this opportunity is about more than just analyzing poetry.
"We are very lucky to have this at our school, because it is a great honor to be in this class," said Sue Ann Skipper, who is a senior at OHS.
Another senior, John Guilbeaux, added, "When colleges see that on our applications, and see the Harvard credits...I think it's going to catch their eye."
Principal Rickey Julian explained that he hopes the program will help expand students' views on the world.
"I am hoping this is a portal for them to realize the world is much bigger than Opelousas. Go out, find all of those beautiful experiences, and have that self-obligation to come home and give back what you have learned."
