Sandra Thompson Herman, the former director of the Atchafalaya Basin Program and one-time candidate for Louisiana secretary of state, has donated a collection of her personal papers and political memorabilia to the Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Public Policy Center and Edith Garland Dupré Library.
A signing ceremony was held Friday at the Alumni Center to mark the collection's formal transfer to UL.
Herman helped create the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism in 1976. She was also the first woman to run for secretary of state.
She later led the Atchafalaya Basin Program that promoted tourism and improved recreational access to the basin.
Herman and her husband have also endowed a scholarship fund in UL's Department of Communications.
