The Lafayette Parish School Board voted tonight to not move forward with moving portables to Southside High School.

The vote was 6-2 against passing the motion.

If passed, the plan would have included spending $600,000 to move portables to the school. Last fall, staff projected the facility would be over capacity in the near future and would need six portable classrooms within the next couple of years.

The plan was approved in January. To read more about the plan and board member Jeremy Hidalgo's explanation about the need for portables, click here.

Also tonight, the board awarded contracts tonight to Lemoine Company for two classroom wing projects.

The Broadmoor project will replace 25 portable classrooms and cost about $6.9 million.

The Alleman project will replace 26 portable classrooms and cost about $7.3 million.

The projects have been in the design phase for most of this year.
