CARENCRO — Students at Carencro High School will get to enjoy a new deck on Thursday.
About 3,000 volunteers with the Love Our Schools initiative showed up to eight Lafayette Parish schools on Saturday to make some upgrades before the new school year.
Carencro High School Principal Mary Qualey says the deck was originally built by students in the 90s, but it needed to be replaced.
The school also received new whiteboards in the classrooms.
Qualey believes the changes will give the students a new sense of empowerment.
"I think it shows them that the community truly does support them and believe in them and that they can do anything they set their minds to," said Qualey. "The outreach and support of the community really touched all our hearts."
Lafayette Parish students return to school Thursday, August 15.
