LAFAYETTE, La. (KATC) — Suspended Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope is requesting a change of venue for his upcoming trial on malfeasance in office charges.
In a motion filed this week, Pope's attorneys cite media coverage of the case, but also the failed recall petition against him.
Earlier this month, Pope filed motions to get the charges dismissed.
There's a hearing scheduled in the case on February 6. A trial is set to begin on March 16.
Pope is currently appealing a separate malfeasance conviction and the one-year jail sentence.
