An Elton man was arrested Friday after a brief standoff near the town rice dryer.

Scott G. Miller, 49, was booked with two counts of terrorizing, a spokesman for the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff says.

Deputies and Elton Police responded to Main Street Friday night, after a bomb threat was called in. They found Miller in an SUV. Deputies were told the vehicle was wired with explosives, and that a bomb had been placed in the rice dryer.

After a short standoff, Miller gave up and surrendered, the spokesman said.

Bomb technicians from Louisiana State Police and searched the area. They found wiring in the vehicle that looked similar to items used in explosives, the spokesman said. Investigators also were told that Miller was trained in explosives while in the military, the spokesman said.
