Arrest made in Ville Platte fatal shooting

A 16-year-old has been arrested in connection with Wednesday's fatal shooting on South Soileau Street in Ville Platte.

Police say that they responded around 9:00 pm on October 2 to the 700 block of South Soileau Street to the report of a man on the ground.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper back area.

He was transported to Mercy Medical Center where officers say he was pronounced dead.

According to Chief Neal Lartigue, witnesses said the shooting occurred following a fight involving multiple people.

Following their investigation, police arrested the 16-year-old male in connection with the shooting. Police say it was determined that the teen would face charges as an adult

Lartigue says that the suspect's name and photo are not being released at this time.

The teen has been booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on the following charges:

  • 1 count of second degree murder
  • 1 count of illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrument
  • 1 count of illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

His bond is set at $1,055,000.
