Lake Charles man arrested for Second Degree Murder

The Lake Charles Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place shortly after noon on Tuesday, October 1.

Police were called to 4249 5th Avenue in Lake Charles in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, police found that Paulden James Lewis, 18, of Lake Charles, had been shot. Lewis was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

During the investigation, police identified Jeremiah Devon Richard, 26, also of Lake Charles, as a suspect. Richard was arrested and charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder early Wednesday morning by the Lake Charles Police Department SWAT Team.

Judge Michael Canaday issued a bond of $500,000 for Richard.

After Lewis' death, Richard's charges were changed to Second Degree Murder.

Judge Canaday issued a bond of $1 million for the enhanced charge.
