Calcasieu Parish officials report a total of 50 COVID-19 tests were administered on the first day of testing at The Burton Complex on Thursday.
50 people who went to the site met the requirements for testing and were subsequently administered a test. Others who did not qualify for coronavirus testing were not tested.
The Burton Complex site opened on Thursday, and will continue testing next week on Tuesday, March 31, through Thursday, April 2, from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. each day. Residents may begin lining up at 8:30 a.m.
The site is open to residents of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jeff Davis Parishes. As of Thursday afternoon, Allen Parish has 5 cases of COVID-19, Beauregard has 3, Calcasieu has 15 and 1 death, Cameron has 0, and Jeff Davis officials are reporting 2 cases.
Criteria for testing eligibility is as follows:
Fever 100.4 or greater
AND
One other symptom below:
Shortness of Breath
Cough
AND
One high risk condition below:
Age over 60 years old
Lung Disease (COPD, Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis)
Heart Disease (NOT including hypertension)Diabetes
Immunocompromised (HIV +, Cancer/Chemo within the past 2 years, Dialysis, Transplant recipient, or currently on medications that suppress your immune system)
Anyone seeking testing should bring a driver's license or a state-issued identification and any insurance information they may have. A doctor's referral is not needed.
