With the coronavirus pandemic still a major roadblock when it comes to gatherings and events, the City of Youngsville has chosen to cancel their 2021 Mardi Gras parade as a precaution.
At a council meeting on Thursday night, the decision was made to cancel the parade which was scheduled for February 13, 2021.
"Sometimes the right decision isn't the easiest one and I appreciate the City Council and Chief of Police joining me to make this call. Don't count us out we'll be back better and stronger than ever!" Mayor Ken Ritter said of the decision.
The annual parade brings large gatherings of people to the city and despite the hope of a vaccine in the future, the council felt that even with mitigation in place, letting the parade roll next year would be irresponsible.
On Tuesday, the Krewe of Rio announced the cancellation of their 2021 ball. It is still not clear if a parade will roll in Lafayette. Read their statement here
