Lafayette's newest bookstore is now open downtown: Beausoleil Books.
The store, which opened in October near the intersection of Jefferson and Vine, offers a unique collection of books, as well as curbside service and (virtual for now) book clubs.
Beausoleil's collection aims to "encapsulate our mission of creating community, inclusivity, and a connection with the local Lafayette community."
Beausoleil Books offers a curated collection of best-sellers, perennial favorites, books in French, and books by diverse authors, as well as locally made products. If the store doesn't have the book you're looking for, they can order it for you.
Work is underway on an adjacent lounge, offering wine, charcuterie, cheese and desserts; that should be open soon.
You can find more about the store on the website here, and on their Facebook page here.
If you would like to place an order for curbside pick-up, you can call 337-534-8233 to order your books and schedule a pick-up time.
One unique offering is the “Book du Mois” (Book of the Month) series. Each month the staff selects a book to honor with the “Book du Mois” title. It may be a new release. It may be a classic. It may be horror. It may be romance. There are no rules.
Then, at the end of the month, Beausoleil Books hosts a Book du Mois Club. During Covid-19, these events will be held on Zoom. This format allows participants to stay safe, and still engage in a fun book discussion. Once it is safe to meet in person, the store plans to host book discussions in the Whisper Room - the lounge that they're working on now.
We'll have more on Beausoleil Books later today on KATC TV3.
