LAFAYETTE, La. — Lafayette-based Waitr presented the Second Harvest Food Bank with a $10,000 donation Tuesday, which comes as an added benefit of the delivery app’s Holiday Food Drive.
During the food drive, Waitr, which is an on-demand restaurant delivery service, also collected monetary donations, and when customers ordered from Waitr the company matched a portion of them.
According to a release, Waitr presented Second Harvest with the donation check due to the program's success.
Waitr presented the check at a ceremony Tuesday morning at Second Harvest, located at 215 E Pinhook Road in Lafayette.
In December, food donations were collected at five local partner restaurants: Pizza Village, Twins, Sushi Masa and Lee’s Grocery – all in Lafayette; and Pizza Artista in Broussard.
The food donations were rushed to Second Harvest during Christmas week due to the extra demand that occurs during the holidays, the release states.
