Man arrested on attempted second degree murder charge in last months Cajun Field shooting

UL Police announced an arrest has been made in the shooting that took place at CAjun Field on August 16, 2022.

Percy Duffy Jr. was arrested on an attempted second degree murder charge and possession of a firearm in a gun free zone.

Lafayette Parish Sheriff's made the arrest and Duffy is being held at the Lafayette PArish Correctional Center on a $310,000 bond.

The person who was injured is a man who is not a student, UL police say. He had non-life-threatening injuries and is being treated at a local hospital.

UL Police, assisted by Lafayette Police and the Lafayette Sheriff's Office, are still looking for suspects and talking to witnesses.

Police say the shooting happened near the parking lot of the track facility, and followed an altercation that happened at another location.

Earlier this afternoon, Sgt. Billy Abrams of UL Lafayette Police confirmed with KATC that officers are investigating a call of shots fired near Cajun Field.

Sources close to the investigation said one person received non-life threatening injuries.

Lafayette police assisted UL Police. Viewers told KATC there was a heavy police presence near Reinhardt Drive.

UL sent a notification to students and faculty that the area has been deemed safe.
