According to Developing Lafayette, a new 1.1 million-square-foot Amazon fulfillment center will be constructed in North Lafayette.
Amazon developer, Scannell Properties, reportedly closed with the developers of the 120-acre property along the NE Evangeline Thruway, formerly Evangeline Downs, to construct the facility.
Reports say that the new facility is expected to hire anywhere from several hundred to over 1,000 employees and offer $15 and hour with benefits.
According to the Advocate, work crews have been preparing the site for construction for weeks. The facility will house items before they are shipped to distribution centers and then to customers.
